On the morning of Easter Sunday, in piazza Garibaldi, there is the 'Aurora', that is to say the meeting between Christ arisen and the Madonna. The image of Mary, at the precise moment in which it meets up with the image of Christ, looses the cloak of black and is adorned with a coloured one, doves fly up from her crown to the sound of the band.
On the 1 May another appointment with folklore animates the town, when farm machinery decorated festively are driven through the town. In September shortly before the busy fair held at the Sanctuary of Tagliata there is the festival of Princes. Amongst open-air baroque pagentry, processions and XVI century local competitions, they revoke the triumphant entry of the Duke of Terranova and the Prince of Castelvetrano, Don Giovanni d' Aragon, on their return from Madrid. There he had been nominated the President of the Kingdom of Sicily by the king of Spain.
During the third week in August there is the celebration of Maria's Sacred Heart in Marina di Selinunte: a feature of this event is the "sardiata", that is a tasting of the bluefish offered by the local fishermen, there is also a very evocative procession of boats light up in the evening at sea and to finish a great fireworks display.
During the winter months there is nearly always a season of performances in the Selinus theatre, while in various churches and in the hall of the Liceo Classico you can hear concerts of classical music. The local Youth Club hosts various classical and jazz concerts, as well as important national conventions on philosohy which for several years now have been organised here on a regular basis. Other local manifestations are dedicated to the folklore of this district which are punctually repeated according to the traditions of the past.
La mattina di Pasqua, nella piazza Garibaldi, si svolge l'Aurora, cioè l'incontro tra il Cristo risorto e la Madonna. Il simulacro di Maria, nel momento in cui viene ricongiunto alla statua del figlio, perde il manto nero del lutto e compare in abiti colorati, dalla sua corona spiccano in volo le colombe, al suono gioioso della banda.Un altro momento folkloristico anima la città il primo maggio, quando i mezzi di lavoro addobbati a festa sfilano per le strade. A Settembre, poco prima della ricca fiera nei pressi del santuario della Tagliata, si svolge la festa del Principe. Tra spettacoli di Teatro Barocco en plein air, sfilate e competizioni delle antiche contrade seicentesche, si rievoca l'ingresso trionfale in città, nel 1622, del Duca di Terranova e Principe di Castelvetrano, Don Giovanni D'Aragona, di ritorno da Madrid, dove era stato nominato Presidente del Regno di Sicilia dal re di Spagna.
Un cenno a parte merita l'estate selinuntina, un susseguirsi di spettacoli e manifestazioni folkloristiche. Nella penultima settimana di Agosto, in particolare, si celebra la festività del Sacro Cuore di Maria a Marinella di Selinunte: caratteristici la "sardiata", cioè la scorpacciata di pesce azzurro offerto dai pescatori locali, la suggestiva processione serale a mare di barche illuminate, e, per finire, i fastosi fuochi d'artificio.
